Short Breaks Made Easy
Thanks to the new scenic Borders Railway, escaping the city for a few days of relaxation in the countryside has never been so easy. Short breaks are made easy by hopping on the train at Edinburgh’s Waverley Station and 50 minutes later you’re in the heart of the beautiful Scottish Borders. A quick 5 minute taxi trip from Tweedbank station, leads you to the peace and tranquillity of Fauhope Country House, nestled on the hillside above the village of Gattonside.
You can choose to be very lazy, there are lots of places in the house and gardens where you could catch up on book reading or chill with a glass of wine. Why not book a relaxing massage with our in-house therapist? For those with more energy, historic Melrose is a half hour walk away via the chain bridge over the Tweed river. Visit the famous Melrose Abbey (one of four abbeys in the Borders), so beloved by Robert the Bruce, he chose it as the final resting place for his heart.
Melrose is also home to a range of wonderful independent shops, from exquisite local Scottish cashmere to interesting jewellery, gifts and local produce including local gins, beers and baked goods. There is also a range of great eateries from local hotels to pubs and restaurants.
Eating closer to Fauhope House in the evening is easy too. There are a couple of very good restaurants (Seasons and The Hoebridge) in the small village of Gattonside, we’d be happy to arrange to have you dropped off and picked picked up, especially in the late Autumn and Winter evenings when the weather is not so conducive for an evening stroll.
Why not let us look after you on your next short break, give us a call on 01896 823184 if you have any special requests and we’ll see if we can oblige.
